Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and Bridges

If you have a damaged tooth, one possible solution to repair it would be using a crown or bridge. A crown is a cap used to restore a tooth to its original appearance and prevent further damage or decay. A bridge differs in that it uses existing teeth to fill in an area left vacant by a missing tooth.

Crowns

Crowns are full coverage restorations that are used to cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. Crowns are commonly used following root canal treatment, or after a large filling wears out. Crowns are a preferred solution for damaged teeth due to the strength and protection they provide, as well as the aesthetically appealing look they offer.

Pheasant Ridge Dental allows you to get a crown in just one day, thanks to our CEREC same-day crown service. CEREC uses Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology in which a medical grade computer and camera captures a digital photo of a prepared tooth (eliminating the need for traditional tooth impressions) and then generates a three-dimensional CAD model of the prepped tooth, which can be used to design a tooth restoration on the computer screen. The computer employs the digital model of the tooth restoration and CAM to mill a perfect ceramic tooth while you wait. The ceramic restoration is fitted to your prepped tooth in a matter of minutes, and cemented to your tooth.

Bridges

A bridge is an option for filling the space created by a missing tooth. It is formed to look like the missing tooth, and replaces it in the mouth. The sides of a bridge use the two surrounding teeth for support, this giving it its "bridge" name. A bridge maybe made of porcelain bonded to metal alloy or all ceramic material. The choice of material depends on requirements for strength, wear, and/or aesthetics.
